Session Description: Come enjoy a fun way of learning the neurological basis of a healthy brain's "fear extinction" function that is the answer to healing from Addiction and PTSD. We will discuss how this "fear extinction" function is altered in addiction and PTSD and learn the specific therapy goals that lead to brain restoration and healing. We will also review how to understand what is happening in a persons brain when PTSD or addiction are part of the situation as well as how to tell if an intervention is helpful or harmful in healing the brain.

Define the parts of the brain that are involved in the reward pathway and fear extinction pathway
Identify the parts of the brain that are not functioning properly in addiction and/or trauma
Explain how appropriate therapy and medications help to improve the the parts of the brain that are not functioning properly in addiction and/or trauma.
