Dr. Michael Barnes is the Chief Clinical Officer at Foundry Steamboat. He is a Master Addiction Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor. He provides administrative and clinical oversight for all residential and outpatient programs. Dr. Barnes has over 40 years of clinical, academic, and administrative experience. He come to Foundry Steamboat after serving for five years as the Clinical Manager of Residential Services at CeDAR (Center for Dependency, Addiction, and Rehabilitation) at the University of Colorado Hospital and 10 years as a full time clinical professor in Counseling. Most recently he served as the Clinical Coordinator and Clinical Assistant Professor in the MA Program in Counseling at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Barnes has developed trauma integrated clinical models for the treatment of individuals with co-occurring addiction and trauma and he speaks nationally on Families, Trauma, and Addiction, Compassion Fatigue and Trauma in Male Populations. Dr. Barnes interest in traumatized families began during his doctoral studies at Florida State University, where he worked in the Vietnam Veteran Families Project (funded by the Agent Orange Class Assistance Project) and the Psychosocial Stress Research Center. Dr. Barnes primary research interests have focused on systemic trauma, having studied the impact of traumatic stress events on parents and on family systems following pediatric intensive care treatment. Dr. Barnes received his BA in Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, his M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Florida State University.
